Su “majestad” el cuy, Peru

In Europe there is this legend about the Peruvians who eat the cute little guinea pig… Well, this is not a legend!

We tried it in many ways: just a leg with potatoes in a small mountain restaurant or juicy fillets in a fancy restaurant in Lima, but the most impressive is the whole body stitched in a picantería here in Arequipa!

The cuy has a little taste of pork. There is a lot of bones, but when the skin is grilled and crispy, the mixture with the meat is delicious!

Perhaps the most difficult thing is to walk around a market in the morning and see these absolutely adorable animals waiting for their inevitable fate…

Good appetite!
